Last day of Barcelona

So we had quite a pleasant final day in Barcelona. The first morning we were here, we met this Venezuelan woman playing her little guitar in the metro. We really liked her singing, so we stayed to watch her. We ended up talking to her for a bit, then she gave us her name and number to keep in touch.

We called her last night. And then this morning, she took Therese to mass and I stayed at her apartment to hang out with her daughter, Ana, and a friend of Cecilia´s. After mass, Cecilia made us this tasty Venezuelan dish (I think it was called arepas?), and then she, Therese, Ana and I all went to a nearby restaurant to eat Crema Catalan, a traditional dish of Catalunya (which is the part of Spain Barcelona is located, and hence the bilingualism of Spanish and Catalan).

It was so random---who ever thought we would end up having a wonderful afternoon with a family we just happened to cross paths with during our 4-day stay in Barcelona? It was so nice to just hang out with people from the city, eat good food, and meet some awesome people along the way. You never know who might cross your path any given day.

Being at their apartment, though, definitely made me miss my family and made me want to just be home.

But I´m feeling better. I don´t feel quite as antsy. I´ve settled into this last stretch of 11 days of Paris and school that I need to bust through, and then I´ll be done before I know it. So I´m feeling calm and better.

And just to note, I haven´t been NOT enjoying myself necessarily just because I´m homesick. I´m having a wonderful time, and I´m sure I´ll like it even better when I can look back on it from the comfort of home. It´s just that I would prefer to be home, not that I particularly hate France or Spain.

And speaking of school: I need to go write this lame French composition right now during my final evening in Barcelona. Don´t feel bad for me, I need to get work done; I just took a 4 day vacation to Barcelona in the midst of an intensive 5-week French program. I can´t expect to get away with doing no school work while I´m here. I also have a make-up test to do tomorrow (which I missed Thursday) and a test coming up on Tuesday. So I have some busy days ahead, but this vacation was well worth it. I needed to get out of Paris. And the time with Therese has been very refreshing as well. She´s an incredible person. Spending 4 solid days with a blind person in a foreign city definitely changes your perspective on quite a few things in life.

How exciting! You are seeing new sights, making new friends, eating new food. Very cool.

Arepas are thick corn tortillas. They eat them in Colombia, so probably Venezuela too.

Venezuelan arepas are different; they're fried, not grilled, and they're stuffed with all sorts of meats.

Got you! Nice to see you enjoyed yourself. Though the only Catalan thing was the crema catalana anyway, even if it was in a Galician restaurant... I was talking with my mum and it seemed like Therese and you new each other from a much longer time...

Nope, we've known each other just barely 3 weeks now. When we were sitting in the Paris airport on the way over, we both were like, "Hey, I know absolutely nothing about you, but here we go, off to Barcelona together." So over all the trip was quite interesting, but a wonderful experience. The trip made us quite close...5 days straight with someone will do that sometimes. :)

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!! I really hope this lasts. You go to the same university or you only had this course in Paris in common?

Aberforth's goat is your mood picture!!! (Aberforth is Dumbledore's brother in the Harry Potter books, you really don't need to know that) I like the name though, it's funny...
